Joyce Nichols Shelander
Joyce Nichols Shelander, having grown up along the coast, paints coastal scenes and memories of childhood. Formal study began at age twelve in Brunswick and continued in college. Since that time Mrs. Shelander has studied art under Bill Hendrix, Vincent Keesee and Ken Wallin. Participating in workshops of the nationally known artists Wallin, Perry Austin, Dee Beard Dean, Martha Carpenter, and Peggy Everett has aided Mrs. Shelander in exploring the colors of nature. Bob Swinehart
Bob has lived on St. Simons Island since 1999, joining the Georgia Coastal Artists for a three-year stint in 2002. Formally trained at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, where Bob studied commercial art. Working in the graphic design and publishing field for 30 years, painting has always been a part of Bob's life. Bob's style has been influenced through the works of the Impressionists, using pure colors and wide brush strokes in his art, producing a vivid end result. While generally self-taught, Bob has studied many artists and their techniques in hopes of staying "fresh" in his work.
While painting in oils and acrylic are Bob's main focus, other mediums in which Bob likes to work are; pastel and producing wall art and furniture in salvaged wood.
Over the last decade Bob has been part of group and solo shows in Atlanta, St. Simons, Jekyll Island and Brunswick Georgia. The Brunswick News has also published many of Bob's works as cover art through the years.

Whether Lydia
is talking about birds, banding, or drawing birds, her major
focus is to intertwine her bird studies and her art. Lydia
earned her Bachelors from Mississippi State University. After
College she started working in advertising in Atlanta. While
working, she wanted to continue her etching, so she found an
etching studio that rented press time. Realizing that
advertising was not for her, she took a year to travel to learn
about birds and about drawing. After several years of traveling
and drawing, she settled in the Golden Isles of Coastal Georgia.
She met and began working with two artist printmakers, Joe
Durrett and Judith Hall. For twelve years she learned as she
worked as a printmaker for a unique group of artists. She has
earned her title of "Master Printer". Lydia says, "There is no
better way of learning about printmaking than to work with
another artist/printmaker."
Now she is pursuing
her studies of birds and the art of the intaglio print. She is a
popular columnist for the “Jekyll Golden Islander”. Preservation
and Conservation of bird habitats are her major concern. She is
currently the Executive Director for the Georgia’s Colonial Coast
Birding & Nature Festival. She has also had several successful art
shows. She is taking her love of birds and her talent of printmaking
and combining them into a way of life.
