Larry Lynch  ·  Dorothy Paulk McClain  ·  Barbara Moore

Larry Lynch

St. Simons Island, GA
Larry moved to the island recently from coastal Maryland. He was a teacher of art, both abroad and in Maryland.

Plein Air painting is his current focus but he also enjoys portrait painting. In his landscapes, his aim is to paint the effects of light. In portraiture, his goal is to capture the “inner soul” of the sitter. The American Impressionists have been his inspiration, particularly John Singer Sargent.

Dorothy Paulk McClain

Art Instructor/Artist

Working with others and willingness to share creative knowledge encouraged Brunswick-born Dorothy Paulk McClain’s career as artist and teacher. This includes seven years as adjunct art educator at Coastal Georgia Community College.

Currently in The Marshes Studio Dorothy finds an ideal painting retreat overlooking the Sea Island  marshes and a tidal creek.  Here she offers art classes and a sales gallery.

Among her noteworthy achievements is an oil portrait of Mrs. Julius Talmadge, President General,  NSDAR (1944 - 1947).  It was placed in the permanent collection of the National DAR Museum, Washington, D. C in 2001.

Barbara Moore

Waycross, GA

Barbara Moore was born and grew up in Atlanta.  Having said since she was four years old “I am going to be an artist”, she began her formal art instruction in high school.  She continued at the Atlanta Art Institute following graduation.

Marriage and family responsibilities refocused her energy until 1958, when the family moved to Dublin, GA.  Here, Barbara taught children’s art classes for the Dublin recreation dept.  In 1960, the Moore’s moved to Waycross, giving Barbara the opportunity to study with William Hendrix, a well-known St. Simons Island artist.  Mr. Hendrix was a major influence in developing her work.  Barbara also worked with students in the Waycross public school system and from 1970-1975 she served as public relations coordinator for the Okefenokee Regional Library System.

Barbara has been active in workshops with well-know professional artists.  She rediscovered her interest in watercolor, and she used this fluid medium in an impressionistic style.  She prefers to paint people engaged in everyday activities and uses line and color to involve the viewer in their story.  Chickens are another favorite subject because of the color, movement, and engaging “people personalities.”

Barbara lives in Waycross, where she continues to paint and teach classes in watercolor.
